Never Underestimate the Power of Paint!

One of the most cost-effective ways to completely transform a home is with paint. This dramatic Torquay renovation is proof that you don’t always need to undertake major structural changes to achieve a remarkable result.

The majority of this transformation was achieved simply through repainting the existing surfaces. Internally, the extensive exposed brickwork throughout the home (with the exception of the formal dining room) was painted in Dulux Natural White, instantly brightening the interiors and creating a fresher, more contemporary feel. What had previously felt dark and heavy became light, welcoming and cohesive.

To add contrast and emphasise the home’s architectural features, the exposed trusses, window frames and doors were highlighted in black. This simple design decision drew attention to the home’s unique structure and created a striking visual framework throughout the interior.

A series of smaller updates further enhanced the transformation. Existing door hardware was replaced with matt black lever sets, creating consistency and a more modern aesthetic. New carpet was installed throughout the minor bedroom wing, dated window furnishings were replaced and carefully selected feature lighting added warmth, personality and visual interest.

Outside, the impact was equally significant. The existing timber cladding was repainted in Dulux Monument, giving the home a contemporary coastal character while complementing the surrounding landscape. The gardens were also reimagined with new planting and landscaping, helping to modernise the property’s street presence and better connect the home to its environment.

This project serves as a reminder that great design is not always about spending more. Sometimes the most dramatic transformations come from working creatively with what already exists. A thoughtful colour palette, attention to detail and a series of well-considered cosmetic updates can completely change the way a home looks, feels and functions.
