The Challenge
This much-loved family beach house in Lorne, once a holiday rental, wasn’t designed for daily living. Storage was almost non-existent, the kitchen felt heavy & dated & the bathrooms were purely functional with no sense of retreat. The plaster balustrade blocked light to the stairwell & the overall palette felt tired. While the curved corner window was a striking architectural feature, it wasn’t celebrated.

The Solution
Storage was designed into every possible space: custom robes, overhead cupboards above the master bed, full size cupboards in both the bathroom & ensuite cabinetry + dual-sided storage within the kitchen island. The home’s signature curve became a guiding detail, echoed in the kitchen island, kitchen overhead cupboards, mirrors & entry joinery.

Freshly painted throughout in Dulux ® Snowy Mountains Quarter, the walls now feel crisp and bright, amplifying the natural light. New timber floors in ‘Bare” by BM Floors bring warmth & texture, balanced by EcoFlor ‘Pastel’ Micro Cement on the ground floor for durability beachside practicality.

A refined palette of PolytecNotaio Walnut’ & ‘Boston Oak’ Woodmatt Laminates, Stone AmbassadorFirtina’ & natural tundra stone layers richness & depth, elevated with chrome & black accents in tapware & appliances. Comfort was further enhanced with double-glazed windows, open steel balustrade stairs & Zeus Interiors acoustic panels, which double as both a design statement & a sound solution. Curved track sheers in Zepel ‘Allusion Feather’ frame the ocean-facing windows, stacking neatly to preserve the outlook while adding softness & privacy.

The Result
The home has been transformed into a bright, functional & elegant coastal retreat, designed not just for holidays, but for the rhythm of everyday living.
